What is Schools to Watch®?

  • A program designed especially for middle grades schools
  • An initiative of  the National Forum to Accelerate Middle-Grades Reform (www.middlegradesforum.org)
  • A school improvement tool and capacity building program
  • Recognition for high-performing middle grades schools as defined by the National Forum’s vision
  • Nationally involves eighteen states and 440 schools


Kentucky Schools to Watch (STW)

  • Currently, 12 Kentucky schools are recognized as a School to Watch
  • Sponsored and coordinated by the Kentucky Middle School Association
  • Began in 2003 with training provided by the National Forum
  • Part of 2013 Investing in Innovation (i3) Development Grant from the U.S. Department of Education with the National Forum and the Institute of Excellence (Michigan)
  • Partners include the Teacher Quality Institute at Murray State University and Kentucky Special Olympics
